  The Andretti/Cadillac Bid
This bid has got to be accepted. We Europeans rightfully maintain a bit of a snooty attitude about American auto sports. It is so obvious that Formula 1 is the king of the sport. But, at the same time the powers that be are making a push to take the American audience away from the Indy and Nascar left turn experts.

I can tell you that the name Andretti is synonymous with racing in the USA. Especially now that the Andretti's have the backing of Cadillac this is a no brainer. If the Americans see Mario Andretti shunned it will be the end of their romance with Formula 1.

I realize that the Andretti organization is run by Michael and Mario is now old and somewhat of a figurehead, but trust me to the Americans this is all about their ultimate racing hero who is by far, indisputably Mario Andretti.

I honestly don't know why the Andretti's would want to go through the crap involved with F1.

The Andretti/Cadillac Bid
Hey David J

Thx for your thoughtful reply. I think you argued the case against accepting the bid brilliantly. We could go back and forth a bit more but we pretty much have covered it. Formula 1 did somewhat create this problem and we will see how they handle it.

By the way great to hear from you. This type of discussion, in my opinion, should flourish here. Congrats as well, I see you achieving great results in PFRL.

Hi Alan, I agree entirely it would be great to have the Andretti name amongst the F1 constructors. They are involved in so many branches of motorsport and F1 would be their crowning glory. However I can not help feeling they have something of an attitude of entitlement. The name of Cadillac was only adeed after an earlier bid was knocked back. From what I can gather GM have no intention to develope an engine for F1 so their only involvement would be that of sponsor and the name is only being divulged to add weight to the application. It seems the “price” of an F1 has been hugely inflated, and F1 become extremely popular in the States, since the Netflix era. Andretti Autosport seem not to wish to pay the price to purchase an existing team and so I can not help feeling they are trying to get a team on the cheap. If they are allowed to do so this will devalue all the other teams who will also have to share the prize money with an extra competitor. Again from what I gather Zac Brown might be the only team “owner” in favour. I can imagine he is taking care of his US interests and I’m not sure what Gene Haas thinks. I don’t blame the other teams for resisting. To them it must seem a loose loose situation. Liberty Media I guess can see benefits and the FIA wish to gain a feather in their cap and longer term credibility. So I can sympathise entirely with the other F1 teams for resisting. Why should a team be allowed in, at what is considered a low price, which bring no benefit to them in the short term and is quite likely to be to their disadvantage.
